The Greenhouse Project

A long-time dream of a PARC project through grant funding from the Peoria Pilot Club has been realized!

In February of 2009, PARC received grant funding totaling $8,308.62 to make improvements to the Greenhouse that would allow for year round use of the facility. $4,154.00 was awarded to PARC on February 26, 2009 by the Pilot Club International Foundation and a matching grant was awarded by Pilot Club of Peoria , bringing the total to the $8,308.62.The Pilot Club of Peoria raised the funds through the annual PARC’s In Bloom Style Show which they sponsor each year in spring.

Our greenhouse has been updated with a watering system. PARC staff Bob Gaffron and Bret Stone have many plans for the new space.  Two hundred amaryllis bulbs have been planted that be available for sale in various colors of Apple Blossom, Merry Christmas and Wedding Dance.  The amaryllis plants will be available for purchase after Thanksgiving for $24 to $27.

Please contact Bob Gaffron at 689-3724 or Bret Stone at (309) 689-3750 if you are interested in supporting this project with your purchase.

Plans are underway to produce other plants for fundraising purposes.  In addition, geranium plants have been gathered from flower beds and are being stored for the winter in several master gardener homes. The geraniums will be given back to PARC in early spring to pot for use later in the year.  Other ideas are to use the greenhouse as a training site for PARC consumers, some of whom may be interested in similar jobs in the community – possibly at local greenhouses.
